Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has committed to give importance to energy, climate and environmental issues. He delivered a speech during the 2021 Taiyuan Low-Carbon Energy Development Forum under the theme, "Energy, Climate, Environment. He says while the whole world is fighting against Covid-19, the forum is a reminder that everyone should not forget about energy, climate and environmental issues that require continued attention positioned with a responsibility through constant thinking in finding common global solutions.

Prime Minister says, "In an environment where many countries have been considering socio-economic rehabilitation plans, this forum will provide a good opportunity to accelerate the development of low-carbon energy to address energy, climate and environmental issues - achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change." He has added that energy, climate and environmental issues, especially climate change, remain major and top challenges for humanity as a whole, which continue to threaten human health, food security, socio-economic infrastructure and the ecosystem as a whole - periods of causing natural disasters such as floods and wildfires.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has pushed for a rapid, reasonable and equitable energy revolution to shift from the production and use of high-carbon energy into the atmosphere towards clean energy production and consumption as much as possible and will be more effective. He says, "At the same time, the development of low-carbon energy, such as clean coal technology, the use of carbon storage technology, the use of hydrogen production technology from coal and others will be essential methods to combat large-scale climate change."

Prime Minister Hun Sen says that although Cambodia is a country with a low level of development, the Royal Government of Cambodia is highly committed to setting energy, climate and environmental issues as an important policy agenda and for the long term under the approach of identifying a common problem but with different practices according to their respective responsibilities and abilities. He says, "In fact, on December 31, 2020, Cambodia submitted to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change an updated report on national contributions, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 64%, 6 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030 in forestry, energy, industry, agriculture and waste management. In addition, Cambodia has been working on a long-term strategy of carbon neutrality, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021."

He has also called for the political commitment of all countries at all stages of their development to promote green growth, reduce carbon emissions and ensure security. Give all citizens access to sustainable energy at affordable prices and low carbon emissions. Prime Minister says, " At the same time, I would like to encourage mutual assistance in the spirit of solidarity, especially through technology transfer and financing, especially to low-income countries. Cambodia has also carefully noted the initiative to establish a carbon trading market trade plan in China. Cambodia has been successful in participating in the voluntary carbon market over the years and is preparing some more work under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change."

He concluded that Cambodia considers carbon credit to be an important source of sustainable financing for GHG reduction activities, and Cambodia is open to engaging in partnerships with interested countries and the private sector.
